MID-FEBRUARY

JORVIK VIKING FESTIVAL - During February each year York hosts it's own Viking Festival, which celebrates York's Viking heritage.  Hundreds of Vikings descend on the city, taking part in battle re-enactments and river events. There are also lots of lectures, story telling and arts and crafts to take part in too.

MID-FEBRUARY

is also TEDDY BEAR WEEK in York!

If you visit the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, every child that brings a full paying adult, and a teddy bear with them, travels for free during February Half Term!

LATE MARCH

York Literature Festival - held a many venues across the city

MID-APRIL

YORK'S CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL - Now this one is close to my heart! There are chocolate dinners, workshops, chocolate tasting sessions and a huge Easter Egg hunt. What a way to spend a weekend! Just don't bring the weighing scales!

MID/LATE-JUNE

York Food and Drink Festival

There are hundreds of food producers around York, and Yorkshire food is something to be celebrated. York Food Festival promote Yorkshire food and supports Yorkshire Producers, Delicatessens, Farm shops and Restaurants. Come and try all sorts of home grown food and home brewed beers and wine!

AUGUST

YORKSHIRE MEDIEVAL FESTIVAL - this event happens all over Yorkshire, with lots of the events being held in York itself, with falconry, archery, re-enactments and lots of activities for children, held at a host of medieval sites both in the city and around the local area.

MID-SEPTEMBER

YORK FOOD AND DRINK FESTIVAL returns in September, and here you will find over 100 market stalls tempting you with fruit, veg, meat, speciality cheese and chocolate, along with beer and wine. There are lots of street food stalls to tempt you as you walk around too.

EARLY OCTOBER

The YORKSHIRE MARATHON cuts it's way through the streets of York in October. Why not visit to cheer the runners on, or you could even enter it yourself!

YORK GHOST FESTIVAL 'GHOSTFEST' This festival started in 2004 and is one of a kind, celebrating Hallowe'en and all things ghostly!

LATE OCTOBER - EARLY NOVEMBER

ILLUMINATING YORK is a fantastic display located at various historical buildings around York, combining York's stunning heritage with modern lighting shows and events. Definitely a 'must-see' event, that you can't see anywhere else!

EARLY DECEMBER

FESTIVAL OF ANGELS transforms York's historical streets in to a winter wonderland, where you will find ice sculptures, stalls and entertainment throughout the day. A truly magical event.

This takes us to the Christmas Markets running from the end of November through December beginning with St Nicholas Fayre, where you can find handcraft stalls, and delicious mulled wine and lots of lovely foody treats, served by costumed traders.

Of course, this is just a taste of the fun and excitement awaiting you in York.
